And that’s it…

Another issue is in the can and another week is in the books. Are we getting better? I think we are.

I love it really. Everything I planted is growing. Not everything is as strong as I would like to see but every day there is more and more life in my boxes. We are growing food here.

As far as feeding myself, I have been well vegetated for more than a month living off of horseradish leaves and dandelion greens. It’s not my whole diet but it has definitely been my go-to leafy green. Only this week has my first planted food been available. Just a few radishes. You have to improvise. God is good to us. He gives us what we need.

I’m also really happy with my current web situation which I think will also grow and turn into something beautiful over the next weeks. It’s just electric gardening. The more attention you pay and the more time you spend there, the nicer it is, just like any garden. And it’s about ecology and doing the right thing by the planet so no shame here. It’s good work. It’s green work.

But if I can make a suggestion. Take the day off tomorrow. Don’t work. Don’t tell yourself you have to do something because you don’t have time. Make this time for yourself. Sleep and eat. Or sleep, eat and go for a walk. Don’t use gasoline in any way. And really, don’t kill anything.

It seems the philosophy is that if you agree to follow a few basic rules of general morality, you end up living a very quiet and comfortable life. And if we were somehow to all agree that what we wanted was a quiet, comfortable and limitlessly sustainable way of life, you end up doing something just like this.

I say however that the freedom to make this choice or even understand that it exists begins the first time you agree to try Shabbos.

We need a day off. We need a day off from everything. Let’s get together and agree to take Saturdays off. Let’s let ourselves and the world rest and heal and dream.

And then we’ll see you next week…
